Our March meeting featured member driven content. It allowed the National Capital Chapter of ASSE members in attendance to bring up and discuss items and questions they wanted to share with their peer allowing for us to learn from the best practices, experiences, and education of others.
Among the topics covered were:
– Measuring safety beyond the standard TRIR and DART Metrics, where the discussion focused on how metrics should be combined with human performance and comprehensive safety management systems to provide a wider lens through which to evaluate our programs.
– Safety culture, where members discussed the importance of a safety committee allowing stakeholders from multiple levels of the company to interact with the development and maintenance of the culture. It was universally concluded that involving your front line supervisors early in the process was of key importance.
– Emerging issues in safety, where a significant and recent development on enforcement of Beryllium across OSHA Jurisdictions was beginning in May 2018.
A special thanks to our meeting sponsor, Colony Hardware, who provided an update on continual development of hard hats technology that fuses with risk management to provide new means of protecting our employees, as well as our meeting host Davis Construction!
All in attendance enjoyed participating in the discussion and the leadership team looks forward to even greater attendance in 2019.
