NCC-ASSE Slate of Officers for 2018-2019

The National Capital Chapter’s Nominations Committee has selected the following qualified candidates to serve for elected office during the 2018-2019 program year. Elections will take place via electronic ballot in June.

President – Matthew E Law, MPH, CSP, REHS/RS. Mr. Law is a public health professional specializing in environmental health, safety, security, and continuity. He is a Certified Safety Professional through BSCP, a Registered Environmental Health Specialist through the NEHA, and he received a Master of Public Health Degree from West Virginia University in May 2016. Law was introduced to environmental health and safety after graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from WVU. He was given the opportunity to serve as a Sanitarian for the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department in Charleston, WV, months before a large quantity of MCHM, a chemical used for cleaning coal, was spilled into the public water supply that served 9 counties and 100,000 residents in the region. As an environmental health specialist working just blocks from the spill, Law played a vital role in the immediate response effort to help protect the public and assist business owners in the region ensure their facilities and products were safe for service following the incident. Law went on to serve as the Threat Preparedness Coordinator for the Putnam County Health Department, working cooperatively with Kanawha-Charleston for public health preparedness efforts in the region. He currently works as a contracted Environmental Health and Safety Consultant.

President Elect – Wyatt Bradbury. Mr. Bradbury is a Safety Professional with experience in the Aquatics, Utilities, and Construction industries. He serves as a Safety Consultant for HazTek Inc. Safety Management helping customers find solutions to their various Occupational Safety and Health Issues. Mr. Bradbury is currently pursing his Masters of Engineering in Advanced Safety Engineering and Management from the University Alabama Birmingham and preparing to take BCSP Exams. He believes that through the development of relationships with the employee, employer, and customer the safest and most productive environment for employees is created. Effective communication spurs training and learning opportunities that would not be fostered without open, honest, active, and engaged discussion on all levels. Mr. Bradbury is currently serving as the Secretary and Membership Chair for the National Capital Chapter.

Treasurer – Marcus Odorizzi, CSP.  Mr. Odorizzi is a Past-President of the National Capital Chapter of ASSE and has also served as the Chapter’s President-Elect, Treasurer, Delegate, Director and Webmaster. Marcus is also an active supporter of ASSE at the national level and has attended ASSE’s Leadership Conference, the National PDC, SeminarFest, and the Future Safety Leaders Conference. Marcus is the Safety & Risk Manager for the City of Rockville, Maryland and in this role, he oversees the safety, risk management and insurance programs for the third largest incorporated city in Maryland. In addition to his role with the City of Rockville, Marcus also serves on the Risk Management Committee for the Local Government Insurance Trust. Marcus was honored as a 2015 Rising Star of Safety (Top 40 under 40) by the National Safety Council and was selected as the Chapter Safety Professional of the Year (SPY) by the National Capital Chapter for the 2016-2017 program year. Marcus graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Safety and Environmental Management from the Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania and also holds the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and Associate Safety Professional (ASP) designations issued by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.

Secretary – Polo Rodriguez.  Mr. Rodriguez is a Safety Consultant for HazTek Inc. currently serving as a site safety professional for a prominent electrical company on a high profile pharmaceutical job. He has extensive experience both working as a tradesman and as a safety professional. Mr. Rodriguez received his B.S. in Occupational Safety and Health from Columbia Southern University and will graduate with his M.S. in Occupational Safety and Health from Columbia Southern University in May 2018. Some of his areas of expertise include fall protection, respirable crystalline silica, confined spaces, and electrical construction. Mr. Rodriguez is a strong addition to the Executive Committee and excited to begin serving and connecting the membership to accurate information and valuable resources making us all stronger professionals.

Director – Thomas Trauger, CSP, ARM, CRIS. Mr. Trauger is a Senior Project Safety Manager at Gilbane Building Company St. Elizabeth’s Infrastructure project in Southeast Washington D.C.He has over 20 years’ experience as a safety professional in different industries including commercial and residential construction, printing, brewing, fabricated metal products and electronics.He is bilingual in Spanish and English and possesses an MBA from the University of Mississippi, a Master’s of Science in Industrial Hygiene from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University.He is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Construction Risk Insurance Specialist (CRIS).He is an active member and past president of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) National Capital Chapter. He has conducted several presentations on fall protection at the ASSE professional development conference and NAHB International Builders’ Show.Thomas received the NAHB Safety Professional Award in 2006. In 2016 he received the ASSE National Capital Chapter Safety Professional of the year award. He was recently elected to the Board of the Job Site Safety Institute. He is a member of ASSE SPALW (Safety Professional and the Latino Workforce) and participates in the ANSI A10 committee groups on fall protection, health hazards and confined spaces.

Director – Robert Matuga, GSP, CHSM. Mr. Matuga manages all of NAHB’s occupational safety and health regulatory activities and educational programs, performing occupational safety and health training for NAHB members, develops safety education and OSHA compliance materials, provides technical assistance on OSHA regulations to association members, serves as the NAHB liaison between OSHA and other national safety organizations, evaluates current and proposed OSHA standards, and develops comprehensive strategies for addressing occupational safety and health issues. Mr. Matuga is a professional member of the American Society of Safety Engineers and has contributed to the National Capital Chapter of ASSE serving as its President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Delegate. Additionally, he is a graduate of West Virginia University where he received a Master’s Degree in Safety and Environmental Management and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He is also a Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM) and Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP).

Delegate – Andrew Shaw, CSP, CHST.  Andrew Shaw is a Safety Manager with HITT Contracting, a large commercial general contractor with operations though out the US and Canada. He is a graduate of the Safety Sciences program at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Andrew currently holds a Certified Safety Practitioner (CSP) and Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certifications through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. Andrew has previously served as President, President-Elect, and Secretary for the National Capitol Chapter of ASSE.
