Julian Mercer Awarded the NCC Janet Sprickman Scholarship for 2018

Each year, the American Society of Safety Engineers Foundation receives hundreds of applications from around the globe. In 2018, the ASSE Foundation Scholarship and Grant awarded a record-breaking $377,925 in 139 scholarship and grant awards to 117 individuals.

On behalf of the ASSE Foundation Education Committee, the National Capital Chapter is please to announce  this year’s recipient of the Janet Sprickman Award is Julian Mercer, a graduate student majoring in Occupational Safety and Health at East Carolina University.

This scholarship is named after the 1971-72 National Capital Chapter President, Janet H. Sprickman, who was a pioneer in the safety and health field as evidenced by her significant professional career at a time when women were rarely given high level responsibilities or opportunities.
